American Indian food is not one of the famous kitchens around. We can correct this fact right now... You can find Indian food when visiting an Indian food market, but how often do you visit such a place? Indian food

Indian tribes like Cherokee, Mandan, Paleo, Hopi, Crow, Chickasaw and Sioux, cooked pretty much the same food, depending on the area they were living in.

Traditional Indian food was usually consisted of meat, hunted by the men, and of dishes containing a triad of corn, beans and squash, also known as "the three sisters". These three staples are the core of many Indian recipes, one of the most famous is Succotash.

Why don't you try it at home? It's quite easy: In a large skillet combine onion, red pepper, corn and heat over high flame. Add cumin, saute for 5 minutes. When the vegetables have blacken a little, add summer squash, olive oil and garlic and saute for another minute.

Turn the heat to medium high add half a cup of broth, 2 cups of lima beans cilantro and a little hot sauce. Cook for another 5 minutes. stir frequently. Indian food might not be very sophisticated, but it's tasty and comforting.

A restaurant's licence can be suspended under the PFA Act, and the case can be taken up under the Indian Penal Code too, says Maharashtra's Khan."A consumer can also file a case at consumer forum or court demanding compensation, which should be proportionate to the injury and loss suffered, including hospitalisation and days away from work," says Shirish Deshpande of Mumbai Grahak Panchayat. "The case of food poisoning can be proved by showing one's admission in hospital, doctor's certificate and hotel bill," he says. If one has not secured the bill, one can start a correspondence with the restaurant. If the management does not deny anything, the letters can be used in building a case, advises Deshpande. The case though is easier to prove if there has been mass food poisoning, Deshpande concedes....

The LTTE has smelt danger to its vital interests in the Sri Lankan government's plan to bring food from India to Jaffna to mitigate the severe food shortage there. The rebel Tamil group's Military Spokesman, Rasaiah Ilanthirayan, told Hindustan Times that the government's plan was a clever device to divert attention from the issue of re-opening the A9 main highway at Muhamalai, which is at the southern doorstep of Jaffna. Ilanthirayan said that if there was a severe shortage of food in Jaffna, home to 600,000 Tamils, it was only because the government had closed the A9 at Muhamalai. The closure of the road at this point was preventing the supply of food from the Wanni, an area south of Jaffna which is under the control of the LTTE, he said. "We have enough grain in the Wanni to meet at least 50 per cent of the needs of the people of Jaffna....

Pass the ice cream and picnic basket, we're not ready for autumnal food

ICE cream, salad, sushi, feta cheese and cold meats are autumn's unlikely food favourites as the unseasonable weather disrupts our natural eating habits. Supermarkets have seen sales of traditionally summer foods rise above last year's levels, a trend which could be down to temperatures remaining high for this time of year. While it has started to feel a bit nippier this week, 2006 has had the longest summer on record, according to the Met Office, with a record-breaking September. The unseasonable warmth has led us to abandon not only coats and scarves but warming winter foods like casseroles and hot sponge puddings. Instead we are continuing to eat picnic style food and cold buffets long after the summer holidays have ended. ....
